Val grew up in Sequim, Washington and found a love of movement around the age of 3. She danced her way through childhood and eventually ended up with a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Dance and movement still pulse through her veins. She never misses an opportunity to shake off the cobwebs and move.

Her first yoga experience was in the Iyengar tradition and from there she moved quickly to Ashtanga. She was drawn to the breathing, moving meditation and practiced Mysore style for several years, 6 days a week at the crack of dawn. Over time she was introduced to many different teachers and styles. Several years passed, not to mention several yoga teacher trainings with Shiva Rea, Ana Forrest, Seane Corn, Baron Baptiste, Sarah Powers and Cyndi Lee before she began to share her passion for yoga and realized her calling to teach.

Val encourages students to move to the rhythm of their own breath. She offers lots of options and ways to approach the practice so students don’t feel like they have to do it all or stick with the poses offered. She pays close attention to detail and emphasizes safe alignment so that students practice safely and can enjoy their yoga practice for a lifetime. Her class offerings range from Yin and gentle yoga to challenging more advanced vinyasa.

Before finding the Lush life, Val lived as far away as Amsterdam and as close as San Francisco. She took to heart a piece of her mom’s advice: “Before you’re 30, everything you own ought to fit in your car”. When everything she owned no longer fit in her car, she managed large scale projects in retail store development. She learned to cook and appreciate fine food. She still loved to move and dance and eventually found her way to yoga.

She relocated from Seattle to the Methow Valley where she and her husband Brian built a house. She loves to cook, do just about anything outside and has a notorious reputation for her ability to jump in the Twisp River when most folks stand aside and shiver.

Yoga is merely one part of Val’s Lush life. Her own yoga practice has been a true gift to herself and probably just about everyone that’s in her life. She’s continuously inspired by her students and appreciates just how lucky she is to have finally found her calling after so many years.
